After so much success last season, Lions running back Jamaal Williams wants to stay in Detroit and continue making an impact, according to Detroit’s team website.
The BYU product has truly found his home in Detroit after an incredible season with the Lions last year. Williams put up a franchise record 17 touchdowns in the regular season, equaling out to a touchdown per game on average. He also accumulated around 1,100 rushing yards as well.
Detroit was one of the league’s most stellar offenses this past season. They ranked fifth in total points, third in yards and fourth in touchdowns. If Williams stays with Detroit, who knows how far they can go next season. Their playoff hopes are very much alive. Williams has become a free agent this summer as his two-year contract expired at the end of the year.
“I really just want to stay with Detroit, if I can,” Williams told detroitlions.com on radio row at the Super Bowl on Wednesday. “Really, just stay here and make my mark here. I really want to finish (my career) here if I could.”
Williams is aware of the business side of football as he comments on his future with Detroit and the business of being signed.
“I understand it’s a business, and the team has to do what’s best for them and I have to do what’s best for me too,” Williams said. “I just really want us to come to a mutual agreement and just get it done and just get back to playing football.“
