Jamaal Williams Calls Lions Offer “Disrespectful”

Jamaal Williams was not having it. Even after showing interest in finishing his career as a Lion, it did not matter to them. Despite career highs with SEVENTEEN rushing touchdowns and 1066 rushing yards, that didn’t seem to matter to the Detroit Lions. It did matter, however to the New Orleans Saints. They had no problem signing Williams to a three-year deal worth $12 million and $8 million guaranteed. That doesn’t seem like a whole lot of money for one of the league’s most productive players last year. Regardless, the former Packer did not mince words in a recent press conference:

“The offer they gave me, I felt like was disrespectful and showing that they really didn’t want me to be there like that.”

The Lions did pivot and pick up David Montgomery in his place. However, how could what seemed like a match made in heaven fall out like this? He’s a guy who clearly enjoyed being in Detroit, played very well, and cared about the community. He was even breaking some Barry Sanders records. Lions GM Brad Holmes even told the media he was interested in continuing on with Williams. However, actions speak louder than words. The offer on the table clearly wasn’t enough.

Put Some Respect On His Name

Isn’t irony the beautiful thing? The Lions and Saints are already confirmed to be facing off next season in New Orleans. If I was a betting man, I think a whole lot of overs for Jamaal Williams would make sense. He already looks set to create a two-headed monster in the backfield alongside Alvin Kamara. You won’t need to tell him to get fired up when these two teams face off this Fall.

Jamaal Williams had a great year in 2022. However, he could be a man possessed in 2023. The Detroit Lions disrespected him with their contract offer and he is looking to make them pay as a member of the New Orleans Saints.
