Jalen McDaniels has signed a two-year, $9.3 million deal with the Toronto Raptors, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday.

The Raptors will use their bi-annual exception to sign McDaniels, beginning at $4.5 million in 2023-24, hard-capping the Raptors. They will not be able to exceed the $172.34 million hard cap under any circumstance for the entire 2023-24 season.
McDaniels was traded from the Charlotte Hornets at the 2023 trade deadline to the Philadelphia 76ers, where he played 24 regular season games (three starts). His productivity and role considerably dipped, averaging 6.7 points and 3.2 rebounds, shooting 48.8 percent and 40.0 percent from 3-point range. In eight playoff games, he was essentially out of Philadelphia’s rotation, totaling just 19 points and 16 rebounds in 102 minutes.
In 80 combined regular season averages, he posted averages of 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals on 45.5 percent shooting, despite shooting 33.2 percent from 3-point range over a larger sample.
McDaniels adds to Toronto’s laundry list of lengthy, rangy wings–spearheaded by Pascal Siakam, Scottie Barnes and O.G. Anunoby. McDaniels has an active motor defensively with a capable 3-point shooting stroke and should be able to fit seamlessly into Toronto’s rotation for 15-20 minutes per night.
The 25-year-old is the Raptors’ second new addition this offseason after it signed Dennis Schroder to a two-year, $26 million deal in the midst of Fred VanVleet‘s departure. The Raptors also secured big man Jakob Poeltl to a four-year, $80 million deal on Day 1 of Free Agency Friday.
