Jaguars Waive Gabe Davis

From the moment this original contract was signed, it sure felt like a huge overpay. Gabe Davis made it just one year into his free agent deal with the Jaguars and has been subsequently released by the team before training camp even opens up.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news of Davis being waived by Jacksonville.

Davis, 26, signed a three year deal worth $39 million last offseason. Cutting Davis is certainly going to cost the Jags. They’re designating him as a June 1st cut, but are still eating a serious amount of dead money with this transaction. The dead money here will compile to a total of $20.3 million dead hit. OUCH.

James Gladstone has really cleaned house in terms of the target tree for Trevor Lawrence. Davis isn’t the only one who got sent packing. Christian Kirk and Evan Engram are also gone. The Davis one is the most understandable, considering he was a total bum last year. The former UCF product notched 20 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games in 2024. Just not close to good enough for the money that the Jags were paying him.

Heading into 2025, the Jags will go with Brian Thomas, Travis Hunter, and Dyami Brown.

Davis was far more productive during his tenure with the Bills, which makes sense given that Josh Allen is the best quarterback in the league. During four years with Buffalo, Davis posted 163 catches for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns and averaged 16.7 yards per reception.
