Cody Rhodes has been on a tear ever since he came back to WWE. Early on in his return, he laid out his goal, which is to become WWE Champion. In addition to the weekly matches on Raw, he has been feuding with Seth Rollins. Cody won the feud 3-0, but Seth had the last laugh when he injured Cody.
After their first match at WrestleMania 38, the feud really heated up. Seth and Cody wrestled again at WrestleMania Backlash, where Cody won again. After that, Seth continued to attack Cody on Raw, and Cody went on to challenge Seth at Hell in a Cell. The two went at it in the weeks prior to Hell in a Cell. Cody Rhodes would sustain an injury during one of their scuffles a couple of weeks prior to the premium live event.
Cody Rhodes had a partial tear in his pectoral muscle. He ended up tearing it clean off the bone during strength training, putting his match at Hell in a Cell in jeopardy. Cody went on to wrestle Seth with the gruesome injury anyway. WWE allowed him to wrestle, since there was no risk of making the injury any worse. It was just a matter of Cody’s pain tolerance. WWE announced that Cody had surgery and would be out for nine months.
“I’ve heard 9 months, that’s their plan… I’ve never concerned myself with other people’s projections – I’ve got a plan of my own – let’s finish, all of us,”

Cody put out that message on his Instagram Story. He also said his sling is off for rehab, and he’s in the gym. It is totally reasonable that Cody might return sooner than nine months. John Cena tore his pectoral muscle back in October of 2007. The official diagnosis was a “complete tear of his pectoralis major muscle.” The timetable for him was six to twelve months. Cena returned to the ring four months later in the 2008 Royal Rumble — a moment in professional wrestling history that I will never forget. It gives me chills just thinking about him standing at the entrance way with his head down.
It is no secret that John Cena is a freak of nature and not many people, if any, could return that fast. But, I believe Cody can. He has proven his desire and will to outwork everyone. Nothing can stop him, and he proved that by still wrestling in his match at Hell in a Cell.
With the Royal Rumble about seven months away, I think that is more than enough time for him to return at the Rumble. I’m giving an early prediction that he will enter at number 30 and win the whole thing, then go on to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 39.
