It’s Official… Tyler Buchner Sucks!

We got our first taste of Tyler Buchner in an Alabama uniform and I think I can speak for everyone on this one. Buchner officially sucks and I don’t think we ever need to see him suit up for Alabama again. Buchner doesn’t just suck. I’m not sure he has any business being a starting quarterback for any team in the SEC.

Buchner got the start against South Florida this week and somehow almost lost the game for Alabama. The game was ugly from start to finish as Bama held onto a 17-3 win. The box score doesn’t tell the whole story. The game was tied 3-3 at the half and Buchner rode the bench for the entire second half. His stat line to close the game was 5/14 passes for all of 34 yards (36% completion rate, 2.43 yards per attempt). He looked even worse.

Let’s also keep this in mind too. Is Buchner even at Alabama without Tommy Rees? Buchner followed Rees to Bama after Rees departed Notre Dame. Buchner was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. It’s not like the industry viewed him as untalented. I think it’s time to change that narrative. Everything we saw this past week is a guy that can’t play a lick. That’s all there is to it.

Who Should Alabama Start At Quarterback In 2023?

I think it’s safe to say that I was way too high on Buchner entering the season. I didn’t think the guy was a world-beater but I did rank him in the 2024 way too early rankings for quarterbacks. At Bama, his lack of size looks even worse in the SEC and this wasn’t even against good competition. Buchner isn’t accurate and the pure-arm talent is limited too. After that performance, I’m all good on crossing him off any list to go to the NFL. We should be talking about if he’s good enough to start for Wisconsin Whitewater, not the NFL.

I don’t know for sure but I don’t see how Alabama plays him again. It’s already been reported that Jalen Milroe is getting his job back and I would anticipate it stays that way despite the fact that Milroe isn’t even a real quarterback. How can you even consider going back to Buchner based on that tape?
