Entering the 2023 NFL Draft cycle, Bijan Robinson was the clear No.1 running back. While his talent is undeniable, sometimes your fantasy football outlook can be hampered by who you get drafted by when you’re a rookie. Unfortunately, Robinson was drafted far too high and ended up in Atlanta, which you would think might hamper his fantasy outlook. However, Robinson is currently RB4 in re-draft leagues with an absurd ADP of 16.2 and an auction value ranging from $50 to as high as $58, and that’s just his average. Is he being overvalued? The short answer is yes. Let’s talk about it.
Trey listed Bijan Robinson in his Don’t Eat the Cheese series for running backs, and I agree with him. He always says that you can’t trust players on bad teams, and that couldn’t be more true here. Yes, Robinson is unlike anyone coming out of college probably since Saquon Barkley. Rookies have certainly performed well in recent years, but my biggest area of concern isn’t even with him being a rookie or that he is going to a bad team.
Are we forgetting that a fifth-round pick broke the rookie rushing record in Atlanta last year with 1,035 yards? Tyler Allgeier broke out for this squad last year, and won’t go easily into the night and be put on the backburner. Yes, obviously the job belongs to Robinson. But Allgeier showed last season he belongs in the NFL and should see snaps on a consistent basis in 2023. Allgeier should be one of the best handcuff running backs in fantasy football leagues in 2023 and he’s probably worth a late-round investment himself.
Do I believe Bijan Robinson will be a more than solid running back in fantasy football terms in 2023? Yes. Do I believe he is being overvalued in drafts? Absolutely. Would you rather take Robinson or Nick Chubb? Robinson or Derrick Henry? Robinson or Tony Pollard? I’d probably rather have all three of those guys before Robinson, and all three are ranked behind him. Robinson would be a great addition to any roster, but choosing him in the first two rounds of your draft is absurd. No thanks.
