Immanuel Quickley, Raptors agree to five-year deal

The Toronto Raptors have agreed to bring back guard Immanuel Quickley to a five-year, $175 million deal, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report Friday.

The 6-foot-3 point was going to enter unrestricted free agency this offseason if there was no deal signed.

Quickley, who just turned 25-years-old on June 15, was acquired by the Raptors from the New York Knicks in late December in exchange for OG Anunoby, who just received a massive $270 million extension of his own earlier this week. His ensuing cap hits will be $30.2 million, $32.6M, $35M, $37.4M and $39.8M through 2028-29, his age-29 season, according to Spotrac.

Quickley is one of the best young point guards in the sport, and it’s understandable why the Raptors want to build around him and Scottie Barnes, who also inked a big multi-year extension last week. He averaged 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 6.8 assists across 33.3 minutes in 38 games with Toronto. He shot 42.2 percent from the floor, 39.5 percent from 3-point range (on a steady 7.1 attempts) plus 84.1 percent from the free-throw line.

They did a very good job swinging for upside in the draft while also acquiring defensive-minded guard Davion Mitchell this week. They’re not in any rush to contend, but will have interesting decisions to make with Bruce Brown, Chris Boucher and Gary Trent Jr., among others.

Surrounding Barnes and Quickley with not only functional size, but shooting to space the floor will be paramount. It’s going to be a multi-year project, but the Raptors have a good foundation to work around for the next half-decade around these two young stars.
