If The NFL Had Any Dignity, They Would Institute The Khyree Jackson Rule

If The NFL Had Any Dignity, They Would Institute The Khyree Jackson Rule

Khyree Jackson tragically passed away before ever taking an NFL snap. Of course, the NFL didn’t actually do anything about it other than send out a pathetic social media post about it. If the NFL actually had real leadership, they would have already instituted the Khyree Jackson rule.

This really shouldn’t be that hard. Managers do right. Leaders do the right thing. We already know that Roger Goodell isn’t a leader. He lets his butt buddy Rich McKay get away with whatever he wants with the Falcons while teams with real organizational leadership (the Patriots) get draft picks docked for things that didn’t even happen.

That’s the NFL world we live in. Goodell doesn’t have enough self-awareness to do the right thing on this. It’s the same play over and over again by the NFL. Send out a half-assed social media post and then forget it ever happened. We know the deal.

If the NFL had any real dignity, the Khyree Jackson rule would be implemented. It would work like this.

If any player tragically passes away during their rookie contract, the team gets a comp pick at the exact selection that player was picked. At the draft the following year, that player is given a moment of silence and is honored before the comp pick selection is made.

Does anybody want to bet the NFL doesn’t do the right thing here?

By the way, on a separate side note, the Vikings should totally get a comp pick for this. Except the NFL won’t because they don’t care. NFL = Not For Long. Life goes on and Jackson will be forgotten like he never existed… because that’s the NFL way.
