I Can’t Believe Alex Cora Suggested Connor Wong Might Play Third Base

Alex Cora is currently running a clinic on how to not be a leader. I’m fully aware these quotes are a few days old that I’m about to share, but I can’t stop thinking about them.

I swear to you this is no fake news. Alex Bregman is on the IL, and the Red Sox manager listed off canidates to play third base. None of them are Rafael Devers, and one of the suggestions was catcher Connor Wong.

“Ceddanne [Rafaela] can play third. [Nick Sogard] can play third. [Abraham] Toro can play third. We know Connor [Wong] can do it. In case of an emergency, we can move [Kristian Campbell] to the outfield and Ceddanne to the infield and go from there,” Cora said.

The Red Sox don’t have any right now. Think I’m being harsh? It’s really not arguable. When you need the owner to step in and talk to a player, that’s all the evidence you need. Cora has lost the clubhouse and it’s so damn obvious.

The way this thing has been handled from day one stinks. Pigeon-holing Devers into a permanent DH spot to reduce your own roster flexibility may go down as one of the dumbest calls of the year. Cora clearly has an ax to grind for no reason, and his lack of accountability on this whole thing has been as bad as it gets.

Sorry, not sorry, but when you’re suggesting that the catcher can play third base instead of the actual third baseman… maybe it’s time to look in the mirror.
