As fantasy football managers gear up for their dynasty draft, they often have to decide which running backs they want to invest in long term. How high should Bears’ running back Roschon Johnson be on that list? Let’s talk about it.
If you’re unfamiliar with my draft notes, let’s go down this journey. I’m not a fan of Johnson. In reality, I’m about 75% convinced that the only reason why the guy got drafted is because he was Bijan Robinson’s backup. Hey, Roschon would have been the starter anyway else! It’s just blatantly false.
Johnson is a former failed quarterback and ran a 4.58 at the combine. His play speed is terrible and it’s not like the guy is some bruiser to where he is allowed to be that slow at the position. I didn’t even put Johnson in my top 20 running backs for the 2023 NFL Draft because I think he’s terrible.
Yes, I guess this is a hate post. Whatever. Just keep in mind the guy who drafted him is the same guy that decided he was going to trade down in the draft to swap Roquan Smith for Chase Claypool. The running back position is already devalued. Using a 4th round pick on Johnson should be considered a big reach. Whatever Ryan Poles decides to do, you should probably fade it as a fantasy manager.
Also, If you’re investing in a Bears running back, it should be Khalil Herbert. The former Virginia Tech product was really good in 2022 averaging 5.7 yards per carry in his second NFL season. It’s only a matter of time before he seizes this backfield.
Even in a dynasty league, I’m not sure what the point is in roster Roschon Johnson. He’s a hard pass for me even in longer term leagues. I’d rather have almost any other rookie running back to stash.
