DT Grady Jarrett has been released by the Atlanta Falcons today right before 2025 NFL Free Agency starts. This was first reported by Ian Rapoport on Twitter/X:

As the tweet says, Grady Jarrett was nominee for the 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year award and was with the Falcons for 10 years. He will now find a new home. The 31-year-old will move on after a few disappointing years with Atlanta. The two-time Pro Bowler has been underwhelming the last two years. He got injured in 2023 and only played 8 games. Then, in 2024 he only posted 2.5 sacks, but his tackle total was about average of what he usually produces. There seems to be an obvious decline in his game and the Falcons are looking to get ahead of it now and not waste anymore years or cap space on him.
Grady Jarrett’s time on the NFL Free Agency market did not last long as he has already signed with a new team in the Chicago Bears. While the Falcons look to move on, the Bears will try to squeeze out any more production out of him that they can. If anything, they are willing to use him as a mentor for younger players to try to grow as a team with a new head coach in Ben Johnson.
Did the Falcons make a mistake and give up Grady Jarrett too early? Or did they cut times at just the right time? Did the Bears make a mistake signing him? Or are they going to be able to find production out of him unlike the Falcons could? Only time will tell.
