Does anyone actually remember Gordon Hayward? Not right away, right? He comes as a second thought most of the time now. It didn’t use to be that way though, Hayward was one of the most sought after free agents in 2017. In his debut with the Celtics that year, he had a disgusting leg injury in the first quarter that kept him out the whole year. Last year, Hayward was disappointing for the Boston Celtics. I don’t blame him entirely though, the whole Celtics team was disappointing. That Celtics team was supposed to be title favorites with Kyrie Irving leading the way, they got bounced in the conference semis. But this year, Hayward will bounce back to have a great year.
I have to bring up stats, there’s no other way around it. Last year, in 25 minutes per game, he average 11.5 PPG, 3.4 APG, 4.5 RPG, YIKES. This is a massive drop-off in his stats than his tenure with the Utah Jazz. In fact, his last season with the Jazz, he averaged 21.9 PPG, 3.5 APG, and 5.4 RPG. It’s obvious to see that most of Hayward’s impact is his scoring. He was injured one whole year and had a bad season and now, he’s not even relevant? Ouch couldn’t be me.
This is actually perfect for Gordon Hayward. Right now, no one is worried about him and is heavily underrating his production. There are less offensive weapons on the Celtics with Kyrie Irving and Al Horford gone. And did we all just forget that Brad Stevens is a great coach AND coached Gordon Hayward at Butler? Hayward literally has the stars lined up for him. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying Gordon Hayward is an All-Star or anything like that. BUT expect the same production you saw at Utah, that production that made him one of the most sought after players in free agency. Gordon Hayward is back and will have a bounce-back year, I just know it.
