I was so excited to see Gladiator 2. My friends bought it on Amazon so I was finally able to watch it. I’m just going to cut right to the chase and get to the movie review because I have a lot to say.
As always, I’ll do my best to limit the spoilers.
Oh, and yes, this is a sequel to the first one. There are references to the first one in this movie. If you haven’t seen the first one, you may want to do that before watching this one.
I’ll be honest; I was a bit disappointed. My expectations going in were sky high so maybe that’s on me for being too excited. When the trailer first came out, I thought this movie was going to be epic. This type of genre is right up my ally and it just didn’t meet my expectations.
Don’t get me wrong, some of the battle scenes were cool. It didn’t disappoint there. Got to see some epic battles in the Coliseum. Beyond that, I just didn’t love it.
The plot is almost identical to the first except far less interesting. That’s about the best way I can describe it. Denzel Washington does a good job portraying his character. Beyond that, I felt like I wasted my time. CGI was out of control. Storyline wasn’t captivating. I have no idea what redeeming qualities this movie has.
I’m not even trying to be a hater. I tried to look online to see what other people were saying and everybody seems to agree that this iteration sucks.
