Ghostbusters VR may not have a release date, but it has gained another console’s support when it finally launches: the PlayStation VR2.
First announced on the Meta Quest 2 back in April, Sony has taken Ghostbusters Day as an opportunity to reveal the VR title’s second home on the PS VR2, further adding to the console’s roster. This comes hot on the heels of State of Play news which confirmed three additional games for the VR2 earlier this month.
Sony moves ever closer to fulfilling their promise of 20+ games at the console’s release. And a new co-op based Ghostbusters title feels like the perfect addition! This won’t be the first time the franchise has gone VR but the unique online capabilities of Ghostbusters VR promises a more exciting experience than its predecessors. But don’t take our word for it: watch the trailer for yourself!
The Vice President of Sony’s VR department, Jake Zim, stresses that we’re getting “a new story… a new concept”. Ghostbusters VR isn’t a direct sequel to any of the previous films. Not the 80s flicks or last year’s Afterlife. It draws heavily on the series’ influence, while branching out with an original storyline and setting: modern San Francisco.
“If you think about San Francisco… about earthquakes, about its history, about locations, bridges, certain prisons, neighborhoods, the environments… it offered up a lot of opportunity for nDreams to really have fun with that, while still playing in the world of Ghostbusters.”
Jake Zim, Interview with IGN
Sounds like we’ll be getting some inspired levels for the upcoming release! San Francisco is foreign to the series, but the perfect place for a new chapter in the paranormal saga. Ghostbusters VR will be an online co-op game supporting up to three friends. Together you’ll buckle up your proton packs, bust ghouls, and run a lucrative business in San Francisco’s contemporary pest control industry. How fun.
A release date is to-be-announced, so in the meantime, who you gonna call for the latest gaming news? Vendetta. Vendetta Sports Media. That’s who. Check our shop and stay tuned!
