Many have touted Georgia Tech wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. as the top prospect in the transfer portal this year. Teams from all over the country have been trying to land his commitment in the portal, and we now know where he’s landing, as ESPN is reporting he will be transferring to Auburn. The former Freshman All-American will be joining transferred quarterback Jackson Arnold in playing for the Tigers in 2025.
On the one hand, this move comes off as a bit of a surprise. It’s being reported that Eric Singleton Jr. had Auburn, Texas, Ole Miss, LSU, and Miami as the final schools he was choosing, and he landed on Auburn. This isn’t a dig at Auburn, as I believe that Jackson Arnold has a real chance to revive his career in a new system, but we also have to think about the future here as well. At Texas, he would catch passes from Arch Manning, and being attached to the Texas brand is huge for your NFL Draft stock. Ole Miss, LSU, and Miami are going to be very competitive next year as well. Singleton Jr. will have his fair share of hype when he declares, but it makes you wonder how much higher his stock could be had he transferred to a bigger program.
The 5’11, 190 lb wide receiver caught 104 passes for 1,468 yards and ten touchdowns during his first two years for the Yellow Jackets. However, Eric Singleton Jr. also brings a ton of upside in the return game. Auburn has brought in a ton of guys in the portal as they hope to improve on their 5-7 record from this past season. If Arnold and Singleton Jr. can establish a connection early, this offense with some of the other weapons they have could be a very solid unit in 2025.
