Frimpong To Sign With Premier League Champions Liverpool

Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong is set to join the 2025 Premier League champions Liverpool after his €35 million ($39.3m) release clause was activated, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 24-year-old Dutchman has agreed to a five-year contract, and a medical is already scheduled.

The former Manchester City youth player has become one of the most sought-after outside backs in the world thanks to his outstanding performances for Leverkusen. He helped lead them to their first ever Bundesliga title in 2024, and it has been speculated for a while that he would move on from Germany to a new challenge.

He is being signed as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season to join Real Madrid as a free agent. While youngster Connor Bradley has shown serious promise at right-back, Frimpong will serve as a perfect Alexander-Arnold replacement.

This is a great signing for Liverpool. Alexander-Arnold was known for his attacking prowess over pure defensive ability, and Frimpong offers the best replacement for this style of player. Frimpong is a weapon in attack, as highlighted by his 14 goals and 10 assists during the 2023-24 season.

He has great speed and an ability to time his runs perfectly to add into the attack, and while his goal and assists numbers are down this season, he still consistently looks dangerous whenever he flies forward.

While his attacking mindset can leave vulnerable space open if a team counterattacks, the Frimpong has played as a more traditional right back in the past. Expect him to find a balance between these two kinds of styles next season when Arne Slot will expect him to be a presence both in attack and defensively next year.
