What are the Mets going to do with Buck Showalter? Billy Eppler has no respect for himself and allowed ownership to Wally Pipp him. David Stearns is the new man in charge in New York while Eppler will serve him coffee as his assistant. With Stearns coming in, will he end up replacing the man that Eppler hired? If the decision is up to Francisco Lindor, he doesn’t think there is any question about the future of Buck Showalter. Lindor wants Showalter back.
“The guy has been here two years and he won Manager of the Year one of them,” Lindor said Tuesday, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post. “One year that didn’t go as planned. He’s doing great. I don’t even think it should be a question.”
“Buck holds everybody accountable, he’s a great leader, he’s outstanding at quieting the noise here in the clubhouse, which sometimes can be tough in New York, and he cares for the players,” Lindor said.
“I don’t think that’s the way Stearns runs stuff,” Lindor said. “From what I know he’s a very smart guy, he’s a guy that interacts with players and a guy that doesn’t make emotional decisions. He makes very educated decisions just like (Mets owner) Steve Cohen does.”
Lindor just lays down random bunts whenever he wants so it’s not really a surprise that he would voice his opinion about this. Imagine what happens if Stearns does fire Buck?
For the record, I’d fire Buck. I’m sure Lindor is right. I’m sure he does hold his players accountable but I think the right move would be to get a younger baseball mind in there. I don’t see clever when I watch the Mets. What does Buck do besides look disgusted when one of his guys gets hit by a pitch? If I’m in charge I’d hire Jason Varitek, but that’s just me.
Time will tell what happens here. I just hope Uncle Steve doesn’t regret giving the job to another nerd. I could have won for him. Good luck with the new hire. You’re going to need it. Nothing will change there.
