Four-Star EDGE CJ Nickson Commits To Oklahoma

Every year, there is an event called ChampU BBQ hosted on the Oklahoma campus. This event is held to bring in prospects from around the state to compete, but also so Oklahoma can make their pitch for that player to play in Norman. This year has been good to the Sooners, as they just landed one of the biggest prospects who attended the event this year in EDGE prospect CJ Nickson.

Nickson, a four-star prospect out of Weatherford High School in Weatherford, Oklahoma becomes the ninth member of the 2025 recruiting class for Oklahoma, and the fourth defensive lineman to commit. Nickson had a final two set, and he was never going to leave the state as the other school he was considering was in-state rival Oklahoma State.

CJ Nickson is the 74th-ranked prospect in the 2025 recruiting cycle, the ninth-ranked EDGE prospect, and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Oklahoma, according to 247Sports. The commitment from Nickson now gives the Sooner the seventh-ranked recruiting class in 2025, behind Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, Georgia, Auburn and Clemson.

CJ Nickson logged snaps on both sides of the ball last season for Weatherford High School, as he would finish the year with 34 receptions for 577 yards and five touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, he tallied 54 tackles, five tackles for loss and one sack. Nickson will be used as a pure pass rusher when he gets to Norman, where they look to utilize his athletic upside and raw pass-rush moves to develop him into a sack artist.

However, it will be interesting to see if Brent Venables takes advantage of Nickson’s offensive experience and lines him up from time to time.
