A former member of Tottenham’s academy and current Charlotte FC defender, Anton Walkes, died early Thursday at the age of 25.
Walkes passed away due to injuries in a boating accident in Miami. He was confirmed dead by Charlotte FC in a statement early on Thursday after Miami Fire and Rescue found him unconscious.
“We are heartbroken from the loss of Anton Walkes, a truly incredible father, loving person, and outstanding human being,” Sporting Director Zoran Krneta said. “Anton embodied what it means to be a part of Charlotte Football Club and our entire community is grieving over this tragedy.”
Following his time at Tottenham, Walkes spent two seasons playing for Portsmouth F.C. before moving to the MLS in 2020. He was first signed by Atlanta United but was selected by Charlotte in the 2021 MLS expansion draft.
Walkes played in 170 matches before his career was cut short. Last season, the defender played in 23 matches for Charlotte.
Vendetta Sports Media’s thoughts and prayers remain with Walkes’ family, teammates and friends.
