Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale are reunited once again. It’s no secret that Zegras’ name has been out there, but now a trade has finally come to fruition. The Philadelphia Flyers have come to terms on a trade to bring Zegras to Philly.
Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff was the first to report the news. The full terms are listed below.
Zegras heads to the Flyers. Ryan Poehling, a 2025 second, and a 2026 4th head to the Ducks. Poehling is a third line player who crossed the 30 point mark for the first time in his career. Based on this package, my initial takeaway is that this is a very worthwhile gamble for the Flyers.
Keep in mind, these two teams have done business before. As I mentioned off the top, Zegras and Drysdale were best friends when both played for the Ducks. Drysdale was sent to Philly in that Cutter Gauthier deal.
I wonder how much of this came from the new head coach, Joel Quenneville? Did Q go out on his own to get him off the roster?
Zegras, 24, still needs to work on his defense, and he’s never going to be the most physical player in the world. Has a ton of skill, but we haven’t seen enough of it to balance out the other downfalls in his game. It remains to be seen if Philly will use Zegras at wing or center, but he’s probably best as a skilled winger from what we have seen.
