The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie will be releasing this year on Oct. 27 both in theatres and on Comcast’s Peacock streaming service, just in time for Halloween, a date that the film was originally speculated to miss.
The FNaF movie has suffered from several production woes since the project was first announced all the way back in 2015. The film has gone through several production companies, including Warner Bros and New Line Cinema. Eventually, the film made it’s way into the hands of Blumhouse in 2017.
Being juggled by several studios wasn’t the only problem for FNaF. The original creator of the game, Scott Cawthon, tossed out the original screenplay in 2018. Cawthon, who is a producer of the film, decided on this due to a lack of faith in the original screenplay and the desire to go back to the drawing board to “find the right story.”
Finally, there was the change of directors. Originally, Chris Columbus was pinned to direct the project. But after he departed from the film in 2021, Blumhouse had to find another director. Emma Tammi was selected to pick up where Columbus left off.
The big elephant in the room regarding the FNaF movie is the quality, especially when considering the amount of troubles production has undergone throughout. Even for non-video game films. the amount of setbacks and issues this movie has received would ensure it would be dead on arrival. However, things aren’t always what they seem, perhaps the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie will turn out good. Only time will tell if the movie turns out to be a solid one or not.
