Pierre-Luc Dubois has been traded to the Capitals. PLD will now play for his fourth team in eight years. At some point, he’s the problem but his fantasy hockey outlook changes with every new landing spot. Now that PLD is in Washington, let’s talk about every angle when it comes to fantasy hockey!
This part should be made clear. For as much as Dubois disappointed in LA, this new opportunity in Washington is probably more fruitful. At the end of the day, he was never going to pass Anze Kopitar in the pecking order. With the Caps, Dubois is going to be given a top of ice time as either first or second line center. Probably first line with Dylan Strome settling in under him.
When you think about it, the fit really does make sense. This was an area of need after losing Nicklas Bäckström. Dubois is a playmaker at heart and should be an upgrade at simply funneling good looks to Alex Ovechkin. He should improve their team and Charlie Lindgren has taken over the number one goalie spot anyway.
With the increased ice time he’s going to get in Washington, PLD should be back in the 60-point range compared to the 40 points he was a year ago. That makes him fantasy relevant. Just don’t reach for what the new reality is.
Don’t go crazy here but PLD has some value. Just make sure it’s after the first 100 picks go off the board before you consider investing here.
