Fantasy Hockey: Jake Guentzel Signs With Lightning

Jake Guentzel has signed with the Lightning. What does this mean in terms of fantasy hockey? There’s too much news dropping today for a lengthy intro paragraph so let’s just get right into the meat and potatoes part of it.

This is the most important part about all of this. Five on five, Guentzel is now skating with Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov. He also joins one of the best powerplay units in the NHL. We’re talking about a guy that led Carolina in points after the Penguins traded him to the Hurricanes. The point is, this is a fruitful spot in terms of fantasy production. The assists will be there for simply being there.

This should help Point and Kucherov too. The Lightning have tried a bunch of moving parts at that top line left wing spot. Having Guentzel be an offensive force for those guys could increase their point totals as well. The only downside is that with Stamkos on his way to Nashville, I’m not sure the actual team really improved. Mikhail Sergachev is gone too but at least Victor Hedman is still there to help QB the PP unit there.

Trade Grades: Jake Guentzel To Carolina

It remains to be seen what the draft day for Guentzel will be but he should have a ton of value. Long term? We’ll see because this team is aging quick and they could be out of contention before you blink. For next year, Guentzel has massive value, especially in leagues that value assists and goals the same. He’s a top 50 pick no question.
