Fantasy Hockey: Farabee & Frost To Calgary, Kuzmenko & Pelletier To Philadelphia

We’re now a few days removed from the multi-player trade between the Flames and Flyers. Chris Bagdonas and I sat down and chatted about the deal so the video you see below will be included in this fantasy hockey post we’re about to talk about and the trade grades. Enjoy the extra content. If you don’t care to watch it, feel free to comment on the fantasy hockey angle on any of the players!

Joel Farabee:

Joel Farabee is easily the most fascinating player to talk about in the trade. He’s also the only player in this deal that has a chance to be fantasy relevant. By the way, two games in Farabee has found himself on the first line with Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri. I’m sure the Flames will juggle these lines a lot but there’s no doubt he’s going to have a role.

By the way, he just scored in his second game with the team.

Last season, the former 2018 first round pick scored 22 goals in his age 23 season. Why can’t he make it 30 or even 35 a season in the near future? Either way, you can see he’s going to have a real opportunity with the Flames and clearly has real talent.

The conversation with Farabee is two-fold. If this is a long term dynasty league, I’m making a play for him. If this is a redraft league that starts over every year, I’m not as confident he becomes a league winner. Right now, he’s maybe a nice daily streamer. Once he gets his feet wet and builds momentum after another full offseason, he becomes a nice play in 2025-26.

More so than anything, I think this is a play for the future. Getting away from the toxic environment in Philly will do him wonders.

Morgan Frost:

It looks like Frost will be the third line center but might get some powerplay time. He also scored with the Flames already in his debut game.

I think Frost is probably a pass in fantasy. His career high in goals is 19 and isn’t going to pass Kadri or Mikael Backlund in the pecking order. If he does, it won’t be this season. If you believe in Frost, feel free to buy but only in leagues that are long term. In redraft, he’s not anything beyond a daily streamer.

Before I start, neither are with the team yet. They’re both somehow stuck in Canada. Hopefully, that part doesn’t take too much longer to bring them both over.

Jakob Pelletier:

Hard pass. No thanks. This team doesn’t score enough to invest in anyone beyond Travis Konecny, Matvei Michkov, and Owen Tippet. If it’s not one of those three, don’t even bother with this team. If they scored more, it might be a different story.

Pelletier started the season in the AHL and was on waivers. If he was fantasy relevant, that wouldn’t have happened. Let’s revisit this next year if he has a hot run here with Philly.

Andrei Kuzmenko:

Kuzmenko might be worth a look on certain nights. He’s had fantasy value in the past. The flaws of his game (foot speed, defense, etc) don’t matter for fantasy. If he can pick up some points on the powerplay, maybe he has some value.

If you’re going to employ Kuzmenko, I’d imagine they want him on the powerplay with Michkov. Depending on who the Flyers play that night, it could create some nights with positive streaming value. Beyond that, he’s obviously close to unplayable as a player so don’t get your hopes up too much.
