Fantasy Football: Texans Add Nick Chubb

We’re about to see Nick Chubb in a place that isn’t Cleveland for the first time in his NFL career. In case you missed it, Chubb is signing with the Texans. Now that he’s in Houston, let’s have a quick chat about the ripple effects in fantasy football.

There are a few separate conversations worth having for this one:

A: Dameon Pierce is donezo, and he’s never coming back as a useful fantasy piece. I’m just not quite sure why anyone ever fell for this cheese in the first place.

B: Maybe I’m reading into this too much, but this is not a good sign for Woody Marks. I wasn’t high on him coming out of college, and if he was lighting it up at rookie minicamp, I doubt the Texans even make this move. Either way, Marks is a zero at least for his rookie year.

This is where things get interesting. What version of Chubb are we getting? Is he totally done after this last batch of injuries? If he’s anywhere close to his old self, I think this hurts Joe Mixon more than anyone wants to believe.

Here’s the bottom line. This move was made to keep Mixon fresh late in the year. Something that didn’t happen a year ago. From November, Mixon had three separate games under 2.0 yards per carry. He’s never been an efficient back, but late last year, things looked ugly at times. Chubb is going to be a big anchor in grinding out tough yards and may even steal his fair share of touchdowns.

Chubb may not be a weekly feature in your lineup, but there will be times his best ball value hits because of an inevitable touchdown. Houston isn’t exactly a bad landing spot to run behind. It should be a team who has the lead a bunch, especially in that trash division.

TLDR: Chubb, if healthy, is a necessary handcuff to Mixon, and if he can get back to his old form, he may even have stand alone value in best ball during certain weeks.
