Fantasy Football: Seahawks Sign Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold is Seattle’s new quarterback. Based on the title, you already know where I’m going with this post. It’s the first day of free agency, and Trey has already done a lot of typing, so if you don’t mind, I’m just going to get to the fun part now.

I already know what you’re going to say. Darnold was really good last year but there’s no way he can replicate the success he had in Minnesota without Kevin O’Connell and Justin Jefferson!

I don’t agree with those people. I absolutely believe Darnold can have success with the Seahawks. Maybe it won’t be 35 touchdowns good but Darnold should be able to perform with Seattle.

Klint Kubiak deserves his respect. Kubiak was the Saints OC a year ago and they got off to a fire start before injuries started to pile up and Dennis Allen botched everything. By the way, Kubiak was also the OC in Minnesota once upon a time. Jefferson went crazy during that 2021 season and it’s the only other season of his career minus last year where he had double digit touchdowns. It’s also relatively the same system as both O’Connell and Kubiak come from that Shanahan tree.

When I watched Seattle last year, I thought a lot of the problems stemmed from Geno not being good enough. Seattle has two capable backs. Two really solid tackles. Jaxon Smith-Njigba started to come into his own. If this team gets one more weapon, there is no reason why they can’t be competitive.

By the way, Darnold is essentially back in a dome and weather shouldn’t be a factor during home games. Seattle has the option to close the roof whenever they so choose.

I think the Darnold we saw last year is the real Darnold. He was talented coming out of USC and I think the smart people by now understand the Jets ruin everything they touch. Ditto for the Panthers. If you have balls and play in a superflex league, Darnold should be a very capable QB2 for any fantasy owner out there. If you can get him for cheap because people think last year was a fluke… that’s even better.
