Fantasy Football: Dalvin Cook To The Jets

Fantasy Football: Dalvin Cook To The Jets

I can’t believe it’s not the Dolphins. The Miami native is officially signing with the Jets. I’m going to be brief because it’s been a long day, but I think I hate this from a fantasy football perspective. Let’s have a quick chat.

A: I feel like the Jets are really tough to project from a fantasy football perspective. Mostly at the running back spot. This just feels really muddy. Is Dalvin Cook really signing there to be the backup? Does he know Breece Hall is better? Is Hall more injured than we may think? It feels impossible to know how this Cook/Hall split will go.

B: Let’s assume we do know how the split will go (even though it feels impossible). Nathaniel Hackett and Aaron Rodgers have been together before. They want that Aaron Jones / AJ Dillon tandem. Does that mean Dalvin Cook is stealing a chunk of the passing game work? Who is getting short yardage? Is that Cook too?

C: I have no idea what to make of the Jets. I believe in the Chinese Farmer. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

Aaron Rodgers probably makes you a playoff team.

This offensive line is concerning at the tackle spots. If Mekhi Becton stinks it up again, the season might be toast regardless.

How many leads will this team have? The competition is really good. Bills, Dolphins, Patriots, is about as good as it gets league wide. We also know it’s the Jets. What can go wrong, will go wrong. It’s also a division with three good run defenses.

I have no idea if Robert Saleh can coach yet. I think that he kinda can, but also not really. His defense couldn’t create turnovers last year. Also, Hackett is calling plays and we all saw how that went in Denver.

Does anybody have a read here because you could tell me about 800 different outcomes and I might believe 797 of them?

D: The Jets have a billion running backs. Maybe you can say they aren’t Dalvin Cook so that means they won’t eat into his workload. That’s fine. However, I have a pretty good idea that they have so many guys that it looks like Michael Carter is going to get cut and he will be claimed in five seconds.

Israel Abanikanda can play. So can Zonovan Knight. Are they scratches or do they get that handful of touches that reduces Cook’s value? Stuff like that matters.

E: Can I talk more about Breece Hall? I feel like I have to. He was damn good last year. Probably a hair better than I thought he would be coming out of the draft. I saw Matt Forte. I think the Hall we’re going to get is a notch better.

In seven games last year, Hall rushed for 5.8 yards per carry on 80 attempts and four touchdowns. He looked like a slam dunk top five pick heading into fantasy drafts this year. Then we all know the injury happened.

How do you proceed now? Theoretically, this should be Hall’s time to shine. I love Dalvin, but Hall is in his running back prime. Also, Cook is making over $8 million on this deal. What if the Jets were more desperate than we realize and Hall is more hurt than we realize?

I like certainty in fantasy football. Question marks only make it tough to project. It’s hard to blow big resources in fantasy on question marks. Long story short; I like Dalvin Cook at a certain price. I just have no idea what that price is. I’ll know when I see it during my auction draft. I also don’t feel good about it and have no strong feeling about how his season goes. How can you?
