Fantasy Football: Cowboys Sign Javonte Williams

The Cowboys essentially couldn’t run the ball at all last year. Will that change now that Javonte Williams has landed in Dallas? This move is fascinating to me and really needs to be talked about when it comes to fantasy football so let’s get right into it.

If you didn’t live under a rock and paid any attention to the Cowboys last year, you know they couldn’t run the ball a lick. Dallas ranked as the 6th worst rushing attack in the NFL last year (1,705 total rushing yards) and tied for the third worst mark in the NFL in terms of yards per carry (4.0). Ezekiel Elliott is totally washed up and Rico Dowdle was so good that Dallas has no interest in re-signing him.

Dallas has no one. Right now it’s Javonte’s world and we’re living in it. Now, maybe that will change by the time the NFL Draft rolls around. I’m sure the Cowboys will draft someone to pair with Williams. It’s a matter of how high. We don’t know the answer to that question but either way, Williams is going to get an opportunity.

Health has been the biggest roadblock in the former UNC product’s career thus far. It’s pretty clear he’s not the same guy who came out of college healthy. If he were, he wouldn’t have averaged 3.7 yards per carry on a playoff Broncos team. The good news is somehow Javonte is still just 24 years old and theoretically should have some tread on the tires regardless of the injury history. Maybe a different story if he’s pushing 30 but he’s nowhere close to that territory yet.

I think there is very much a worthy flier right here. Are we sure there isn’t a bounceback change of scenery positive impact waiting to happen here? If Williams is ever going to turn it around, it has to be now. This is almost his last stand. I’m not telling you to spend an arm and a leg here but in terms of taking a flier, this one is a worthy gamble. It may depend on who the Cowboys also draft but if you play best ball like a smart person, Williams should get carry either way and could be the guy to snatch those touchdowns as the short yardage guy.
