McDavid, Draisaitl, and Kane? Evander Kane has found a new home. After weeks of speculation, Kane will sign a remainder of the season deal with the Edmonton Oilers. The Pacific Division just got very, very interesting. Kane might be a knucklehead, but this is a big move by the Oilers.
Darren Dreger of TSN was the first to report the story:
As Dreger states, the deal will pay Kane close to $1 million for the rest of the season. He also will have a new clause guaranteeing him that he will be in Edmonton the rest of the season. Not that it was any surprise. It’s not the OIlers are going to trade the guy after convincing him to sign within weeks of each other.
This is a huge boost for the Oilers. Obviously, goaltending is a problem. Defense is also a problem. Hell, anybody beyond Connor McDavid and Leon Drasaitl is basically a problem. Kane will provide toughness, scoring, and trouble for an Oilers team that needs a spark.
Hey, I’m not going to lie, I’m happy as an Evander Kane fantasy owner. I’ve held onto this guy basically the entire season. Now I get to pick up free points next to McDavid? Oh, and I have McDavid too.
Character stuff aside, Kane was great last year. The former Shark scored 22 goals to go along 27 assists in 56 games on a bad San Jose team. His point production should boom playing in Edmonton. It’s also a great place to rebuild his stock if Kane can be the missing piece to an Oilers lengthy playoff run.
