Euro 2024 Golden Boot Favorites

With Euro 2024 set to begin, it is time to look at some of the star players to watch. One of the big individual awards that will be handed out at the final on July 14 will be the Golden Boot. The Golden Boot is awarded to the player that has the most goals during the Euros. Recent winners include Cristiano Ronaldo (Euro 2020), Antoine Griezmann (Euro 2016), and Fernando Torres (Euro 2012). The record for goals in a single Euros falls to Michel Platini, who scored nine goals during Euro 1984 on his way to winning the title with France. 

With many lethal goalscorers all around Euro 2024, it is difficult to narrow it down to just a few nominees before the tournament starts. Here are three players that I think have a real shot at lifting the Golden Boot this summer. 

3. Romelu Lukaku – Belgium

The leading goal scorer in all of Euro 2024 qualifying was Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku. The Roma stud scored an impressive 14 goals over eight matches which set a new record for most goals in a Euro qualifying campaign. He bagged himself a hattrick in Belgium’s first match against Sweden and then scored four against Azerbaijan later on in qualifying. Lukaku is the all-time leading goal scorer with 85 goals, 52 more than second-place. The only concern here is that Belgium would likely need a deep run for Lukaku to reach a Euro-leading amount.

2. Harry Kane – England

One of the most pure goalscorers in Europe is Harry Kane. The England captain and all-time leading goalscorer moved to Germany this past season and immediately bagged the Bundesliga Golden Boot with 36 goals in 32 matches. This was enough to earn him the European Golden Shoe for the most goals in any of Europe’s top leagues. During qualifying, Kane scored eight goals to extend his record to 63 goals for England. This would not be the first time Kane would have won the Golden Boot at a major tournament. His six goals at the 2018 World Cup secured him the Golden Boot there. 

1. Kylian Mbappé – France

My favorite to win the Golden Boot at Euro 2024 is Kylian Mbappé. The forward for France is one of the most dangerous forwards in the world and can be considered the best player in the world at the moment. The Golden Boot winner at the 2022 World Cup has recently made the move from PSG to Real Madrid. The biggest threat Mbappé poses to defenders is his speed which makes him a mismatch for virtually anyone. Plus France is my pick to win the whole thing and with the extra games played, he could very easily boost his goals compared to the others challenging him.
