ESPN Is Testing Red Zone Style Broadcast For College Football
The red zone-style broadcast that ESPN created with the NHL called ‘Frozen Frenzy’ was a massive success. I just wish it happened more often. It’s not often that hockey dominates the conversation but it did during Frozen Frenzy. ESPN is now going to try to do the same with college football.
Here are some things you should know:
The broadcast will begin at 7:30 pm EST on ESPN2. They will only show games that Disney has access to. This is the full list that they will be shifting to throughout the night (Iowa State vs. No. 22 Kansas, No. 24 USC vs. No. 5 Washington, Rice vs. SMU, Mississippi State vs. Kentucky, North Carolina State vs. Miami and UTEP vs. Western Kentucky).
Pat McAfee and Reece Davis will be the hosts of the broadcast. It remains to be seen on if this is a one time thing. That may depend on viewership.
Overall this is a really good idea and McAfee is probably the right person to bring the excitement in short windows. It just seems really flawed considering that Alabama and LSU is on at the same time and that’s going to be the premier game that people really care about. I’m also curious why they’re picking the late window. I feel like covering the games at the start of the day would be more beneficial.
Let’s hear from you in the comments. Is this something you’re looking forward to or will you just watch the normal broadcast? Feel free to drop your thoughts in below.
