ESPN Radio Sets New Lineup Around Chris Canty

ESPN Radio finally has a new lineup. The old trio of Keyshawn Johnson, Jay Williams, and Max Kellerman have all been basically fired. In Williams’ case, soon to be fired. In the case of Johnson (link) and Kellerman (link) already fired. The new lineup will be featured around former Cowboys and Giants defensive lineman, Chris Canty.

The New York Post was the first to report the news:

“ESPN has found its new morning team, The Post has learned.”

“Giants Super Bowl champion Chris Canty will be joined by SiriusXM’s Evan Cohen and Michelle Smallmon in the mornings for a new program the network hopes will begin in time for football season in a few weeks, according to sources.”

Cohen will depart his SiriusXM for the new opportunity at ESPN Radio. Smallmon will get a promotion after doing previous work for an ESPN St. Louis affiliate. Mike Greenberg will continue doing his morning show from 10 am to noon est.

Let us know in the comments. Was this the right hire? To me, this feels like a very lateral move. If Keyshawn Johnson couldn’t get traction for the radio show, what makes them think that Canty can? Does Canty have a real audience? Hey, nice player a few years ago. I’m just not sure what he’s know for other than being part of the anti-Tua club which Jackson detailed in his video. Even at ESPN, I can’t remember a time when a clip of Canty went viral from a good point that he made. Can’t see how this works long term. If he never played for the Giants, would he get this job? I think the answer to the question is probably no.
