Erik Haula Accomplishes Nothing For The Predators

Barry Trotz already called his own team a fantasy hockey team. Once again, we have further proof that Trotz doesn’t really have any clue what he’s doing from a team-building perspective. I have no idea what Erik Haula accomplishes, but it won’t help Nashville get back on track.

Haula, 34, was acquired away from New Jersey in exchange for defenseman Jeremy Hanzel and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. Haula is in the final year of a $3.15 million AAV contract that will expire in 2025-26.

I fully understand the Predators were in panic mode. They don’t have any good centers, and Haula is at least a body to fill a role. Haula likely fills the third line center role for Nashville, but he’s not really a high-end piece who will help get the team back on track.

This has always been the problem with Haula. He’s capable of defending. He’s equally good at taking penalties. That’s while never driving enough offense to make up for it. In 69 games last year, Haula posted 11 goals and 10 assists. Jersey was ready to move on because they knew they could do better. Nashville was just looking for a body and it’s so damn obvious.

I couldn’t tell you what Nashville is trying to accomplish. I have no idea how Haula gets them back into contention. The only thing I know is that Trotz is living on borrowed time and they need to basically start back over from square one… again.
