After 9 seasons of Andy Enfield, USC is hiring Eric Musselman to be the next head coach for the men’s basketball team, according to CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein.
USC basketball had a disappointing season, with a 15-18 record and being eliminated in the second round of the Pac-12 conference tournament to the University of Arizona, 70-49 — failing to make the NCAA Tournament.
Musselman previously coached at the University of Arkansas, with the team having a slightly better record finishing with a 16-17. Finishing 12th in the conference standings and losing to South Carolina in the second round of the SEC conference tournament, 66-80.
Despite not many any notable features with the Razorbacks, Musselman and the team made the Elite 8 in both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. With a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2022-23 season.
While not making the NCAA tournament this year, the previous years were certainly better than Enfield. The furtherest USC basketball has made it into the NCAA Tournament was the Elite 8 in the 2020-21 season. Losing in the round of 64 the next two seasons and failing to make the most recent tournament.
Musselman will have to get to work soon, as multiple players have decided to enter the transfer portal; such as Bronny James and recently UCLA commit Kobe Johnson .
Let’s see if Musselman can help USC finally win a championship as their new head coach.
Schools have been hiring new coaches left and right. With Long Beach State hiring Chris Acker, the University of Washington hiring Danny Sprinkle, and Michigan hiring Danny May among a few hires.
