We’re rolling right along here. Elijah Simmons is next up for the 2025 NFL Draft profile series. I understand he’s not on anybody’s radar, but we’re going to talk about why that shouldn’t be the case here next.
Simmons, 23, was a three star recruit during the 2019 cycle. Checking in at 6-foot-1, 331, Simmons was also ranked as the 41st DT and 16th overall player in the state of Tennessee. The Nashville native spent all five years with the Vols.
Look, the guy was never really ever a starter at Tennessee. Mostly a rotational piece but the Vols front the last two years was really good. Over his career at Tennessee, Simmons racked up eight tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and 59 tackles. It’s not anything sexy, but being a stat sheet guy isn’t his role. What Simmons does best is clog up lanes so that his teammates can have their lives made easier.
I thought the Combine performance was super impressive. The movement skills are there. You can also see he has power. Most guys this size are turds. That’s not Simmons. He’s a real athlete. We don’t have a ton of evidence here, given the limited snap size, but there are only so many humans on earth like this. He’s going to help someone on early downs stop the run.
I’m not telling you he’s a world beater. You’re looking at a 6th-7th round pick here. What I’ll say is if you need depth at the nose, this is a hell of a flier to take.
