Shout out to Chase Sowell. If you follow the site, you already know he’s an ECU legend in the EA Sports College Football game (if you have no idea what I’m talking about click here for the hub). Unfortunately, Trey doesn’t run the ECU program so the good players they do have are bolting via the portal.
ESPN’s Max Olson was the first to report the news. The Cyclones beat out Ole Miss, Florida, Arizona State, TCU, Baylor, Kansas, Houston, Oklahoma State, SMU, Illinois, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin to land him.
Sowell will join former UCF wideout Xavier Townsend in Ames as Iowa State has now collected two receivers in the portal. The Texas native will move to his third school after starting out his career with Colorado. Sowell was originally part of the max exodus at Colorado when Deion Sanders first showed up. Not that Colorado is hurting for receiver talent but this is one they would probably like to have back. Sowell is a good football player and still has two years of eligibility remaining.
Sowell, 6-foot-4, notched 678 yards on 34 catches as the Purple Pirates’ second-leading wide receiver this past season. Winston Wright Jr. was the leading receiver but he’s likely off to the NFL this year. I hope Sowell has great success at his new landing spot. It’s just a shame the new head coaching hire wasn’t enough to keep him in the state of North Carolina.
