Eagles/Chiefs Is Not A Revenge Game; So Stop Acting Like It Is

Let’s Tell The Truth

The Eagles/Chiefs game is clearly the marquee matchup this week. The Eagles, and granted I’m biased (just listen to any episode of The Lead Word), are the best team in the NFL right now. They have the best overall record and are undefeated against teams with winning records. These are facts.

The Chiefs are arguably the second-best team in the NFL right now. They have a probable future Hall of Fame (HOF) quarterback and sure-fire HOF head coach in Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, respectively. That being said their record is tied with Detriot’s (who beat them) and they also lost to a miserable Broncos team.

This game is a must-watch. What it is not, is a revenge game.

The Game is Meaningless

This game should be fun, but ultimately it is sort of meaningless.

For the Chiefs, if they lose this game it would likely tie them with three other teams in their conference. The Jags, Ravens, and Dolphins would all likely win this week and a Chiefs win would leave all four teams at 7-3. So they have more skin in the game than the Eagles do, but even if they lose they still likely make the playoffs (anything can happen but they will make it) and, with a win over Miami earlier in the season, they still have a chance to be the one seed in the AFC.

If the Eagles lose, it likely ties them in record with the Lions but they would still have the tiebreaker if they handle business later this season against the Seahawks.

Why Eagles/Chiefs Is Not A Revenge Game

There is one reason, and one reason only, this game is not a revenge game. That reason revolves around the circumstances of the last Eagles/Chiefs game.

The last time these teams met the Chiefs WON THE F**KING SUPER BOWL. The Chiefs ended the Eagles season on a low note last year. This year, no matter the outcome, virtually nothing changes for either team. This is not a revenge game because nothing is at stake. It’s simple math:

  • The Eagles play the Chiefs and both teams need to win to make the playoffs. Revenge game.
  • The Eagles play the Chiefs and both teams still likely make the playoffs and still have decent odds to be the one seed. Not a revenge game.

“Chad, you’re just scared the Eagles are going to lose. That’s why you’re trying to act like you don’t care”

YOU’RE GOT DAMN RIGHT I’M SCARED.

This is Andy Reid coming off of a bye week. Andy Reid with prep time is like fighting f**king Batman. But, you’re wrong that I’m trying to act like I don’t care. I care, I care oh so very much.

I just don’t need to lie to myself and pretend this game means something. I’m scared just because I want the Eagles to win.

I hate losing. I hate losing more than I like winning.

If I had my way the Eagles would go undefeated, win every game by 20 points, and win the Super Bowl every year.

Sadly, that’s not the case. That doesn’t mean I won’t be upset if the Eagles lose a meaningless game to the Chiefs though.

So stop calling this a revenge game. Appreciate we get to watch two of the best teams in the NFL play each other in prime time and keep it pushin’.
