Nobody got cheesed harder on the landing spot than Dylan Sampson did in terms of fantasy football. I had Sampson ranked as a top five running back heading into the draft. I dropped him way down in my fantasy rankings after the Browns were the team that ultimately drafted him.
It’s one thing to land with the Browns. It’s another when you’re the second running back they draft, with Quinshon Judkins getting selected in the second round. Also, Jerome Ford is still very much a thing. Despite all of it, Sampson seems to have a good head on his shoulders and is okay with being part of the committee in Cleveland.
“I think this is the blueprint of the league, the best way it works with running backs,” Sampson said during rookie minicamp. “It’s a long season, so you want as many people as you can to go in there and split reps and do good for the team. That keeps everybody fresh. You see it all across the league, and I think we have an opportunity to do that here.”
Sure, Sampson sure has a point here. This setup in Cleveland is certainly one where he won’t get burnt out by getting too much volume. That is certainly great work in the spin zone department. It’s also possible he’s not really telling the truth here, but that’s a story for another day.
In terms of fantasy, Sampson is probably a zero in re-draft and nothing more than a flier in dynasty as things stand right now.
