Ducks Planning Massive Bid For Mitch Marner

With the salary cap going up, some of these bottom feeding teams have space to literally light on fire. One of those teams is the Anaheim Ducks, and they could be preparing a monster bid for Mitch Marner.

With over $38 million in the cap space piggybank, the Ducks appear poised to hand Marner a record setting deal.

James Mirtle of The Athletic (do not click the link. It’s from those trashbags who lock everything behind a paywall. I’ll give you all the information you’re looking for below while crediting the poo poo source)

“Some of the chatter is that they’ll potentially be the high bidder for Mitch Marner, with an unheard-of average annual value north of the $14 million that the Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl currently makes as the NHL’s highest-paid player,” Mirtle wrote.

You can’t really blame the Ducks for this move. They have a bunch of young players and need to start putting established veterans around them. Being in the shadows with the Ducks could make sense for Marner too if he simply wants to escape the media in Toronto. The only downside of this is by the time those young players really hit, Marner probably ages out of his prime.

The crazy part about all of this is that even after the Ducks theoretically land Marner, they still have money to burn to potentially do more damage.

Marner, 28, may receive an offer upwards of $14 million AAV with the Ducks. If he truly wants to win, Vegas makes a lot more sense.
