Don’t Eat The Cheese! 2024 Fantasy Baseball: Shortstop

Slowly and surely Vendetta Sports Media will establish itself as the premier go to site for fantasy sports. You can laugh at that statement all you want but the evidence doesn’t lie. I own fantasy hockey (RIP Sean Allen). Matthew Berry was embarrassed. In 2024 we’re throwing our hat in the fantasy baseball realm and the Don’t Eat The Cheese series will return to cover MLB.

For now, I don’t have anything against ESPN’s fantasy baseball department. Time will tell if that changes. In the meantime, I’m just going to give you busts. Any player that’s ranked too high inside the top 50, we’re going to expose them together.

Trea Turner (Philadelphia Phillies) -SS3, 33rd overall

It was a rocky first season for Trea Turner in Philadelphia. His .266 from last year was his lowest average since his rookie season. Still found a way to hit some homers but his .778 OPS was the lowest since 2017. He’s heading into age 31 now and the athleticism goes quick for some of these guys. Not saying he’s going to fall off a cliff but the old Turner might be gone. Instead of MVP candidate, this might be the new reality. If it is, this is way too high. Still stole 30 bags last year but his 150 K’s were by far the most of his career. Proceed with caution.

Francisco Lindor (New York Mets) -SS4, 38th overall

Just am never going to get on board with this guy. Anybody that calls themselves a superstar and dials up their own sac bunt is a loser. He does it all the time and it’s infuriating. Lindor was good last year stealing a career high 31 bags and even chipped in 31 homers. Also punched out a career high 137 times. I want no part of this. Would much rather take a shot on one of the young guns.

Honorable Mention: Ha-Seong Kim

Nice player his ranking seems insane. A lot of his value comes from his glove. I also think we kinda know what Kim is at this point. I’m just not going to get on board with ranking Kim 9th among all shortstops. Can chip in some homers but never going to hit bombs. Just feels way too high.
