Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone Wants To Come Out Of Retirement To Fight Again

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is one of the most decorated UFC fighters of all time. He is a UFC Hall of Famer who has a multitude of UFC records. However, Cowboy retired in July of 2022 and has been enjoying life outside the octagon.

Now, it seems Cerrone is getting the fighting bug again as he is thinking about coming out of retirement. The now 41-year-old fighter would be trying to snap a six-fight losing streak in his first fight back. He made his announcement about wanting to return to the octagon in an Instagram post.

I know this news will probably scare some UFC fans because we want to see fan-favorite fighters retire sooner rather than later. However, I do not have a major issue with this possible return from retirement if it is only two more fights. Cowboy Cerrone has dedicated a lot of his life to MMA and you can’t talk about the history of the UFC without bringing his name up. He has taken time off so if he wants to step in the octagon two more times to get to 50 overall fights the UFC should consider it.

There will be no title run in his future so the UFC can pick him easy fights. They could match him up against another older fighter or just a layup fight against a striker. Also, he could fight Tony Ferguson in his last fight and the UFC could make both of them retire after the bout.

Donald Cerrone’s accomplishments

Cowboy, as it stands, has the third most fights in UFC history at 38. Also, he is tied for the second most wins at 23 and has the third most finishes at 16. Finally, he is second in fight night bonuses by one with 19 and he is tied for eighth in KO/TKO wins with 10.

Donald Cerrone has a chance to beef up his résumé even more with two more fights if he makes a return to the octagon. It will be interesting to see how this situation develops and how people feel about a possible return. Donald Cowboy Cerrone has nothing left to prove but if he wants two more fights I’m sure people will be tuned in for his return.
