JJ Redick, one of the biggest rising NBA analysts, has been shot down by an NBA legend after a certain comment. Redick made comments on NBA Hall-of-Famer and Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird regarding the physicality of Bird’s era. Now Dominique Wilkins has sounded off on Redick, calling the analyst stupid.
Redick based his argument on the physicality of today’s league, saying all the same physicality presented in Larry Bird’s era is still in the modern era.
“I didn’t disrespect Larry Bird. I questioned the narrative around physicality. I said for every montage video you can show me of Larry Bird being in a headlock underneath the basket,” he said. “I can show you a montage video of him shooting open jumpers. Of him coming off pin-downs. Yeah, I can show Steph the same way. I can show Steph getting held, I can show Larry getting held. It’s all basketball.”
In response to Redick’s comments, Wilkins fired a hefty shot back.
“He’s stupid,” Wilkins said. “It’s a stupid comment, because Larry Bird played in the most physical era ever. He’s 6’10”, almost 6’11”. He was physical himself.”
Now Redick isn’t the only one not a fan of Bird‘s era or a fan of “Larry Legend” himself. Former Chicago Bulls forward Dennis Rodman took a shot at his former foe only a few months ago.
“I’ll put it this way: If Larry Bird played in this era, I think he’d be in Europe. You’ll be somewhere over there,” Rodman said in the video shared on YouTube. “His game was fit for Boston at that time, in the 80s and stuff like that. So, in today’s world, hell no. I’m not downplaying him because he was a great player at that time, just like I was. But I’m saying no, there’s no way. No way.“
“I think the kid from Denver is way better than him,” Rodman added. “Oh my God, he’s slow as hell. He plays slow, but that guy got a game. I think he’s better than Larry Bird. In this day and age, yeah. I’m saying he can shoot that three like woosh, my God. So, wow. Compare him to Larry Bird, I think people would pick him.”
Bird hasn’t even publicly defended himself on social media, but if it were on the court, you could bet it that he would give insults right back at you.
