Does Martavis Bryant Have Any Fantasy Value With The Cowboys?
I genuinely can’t believe that someone even signed Martavis Bryant. Yet… here we are. The former Clemson product is back in the league after signing a contract with the Cowboys. Bryant might be back in the league but does he have any value in terms of fantasy football? Let’s talk about it.
Not to bury the lede or anything, but I’d lean towards a hard no here. I just will take the stance of I’ll believe it when I see it sort of thing.
For starters, Bryant is on the practice squad now. It’s going to take time to work his way onto the active roster. Plus, it’s not like the wide receiver room in Dallas is barren. It might take an injury to even get him on the roster. It’s hard to really value Martavis in fantasy if he’s not on the 53. Even if and when he is, it’s not like he’s leaping past CeeDee Lamb on the depth chart.
We’re also talking about a guy who’s been away from the game for such a long period of time. Bryant, 31, hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2018. That’s such a long time ago. Realistically, he hasn’t been productive since 2015 and that’s basically forever ago. If Maurice Clarett forgot how to play football then I can’t imagine that Martavis is about to bring this bag of tricks to the table.
The other problem is, it’s not like Dak Prescott is putting up these monster numbers. Brandin Cooks is having a down year. Michael Gallup isn’t doing much. If you dropped Martavis onto the Chiefs, Dolphins, or Bills, maybe you’re having a different conversation. Dak has 13 touchdown passes on the year. Yipee!
It’s a nice story in terms of real football but I think it’s probably a non-story in terms of fantasy. If his name isn’t CeeDee Lamb, you’re probably not overly concerned about any pass catcher in Dallas.
