What should you make of Kansas State running back DJ Giddens? That’s what we’re here to talk about, obviously, hence the title. Look, I’m going to end up writing like 350 of these. How creative can I be with these intros? Anywho, let’s get right to the 2025 NFL Draft profile on the K-State RB!
NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 3, Week 5, Week 7, Rate Bowl
The most notable thing that stands out to me is that I genuinely just thought Dylan Edwards was the better player while sharing the backfield with him. You can read plenty on why I thought that was the case in the stock notes above. Edwards will be a name to watch in the future but this draft class features Giddens so we’ll keep it moving.
Giddens, 21, was very productive and even declared sooner than he even had to. Had 89 carries as a freshman and managed to score on six of them. The last two years of his career we’re talking about a substantial workload. Giddens had 223 carries for 1,226 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore. This past year he had 205 carries for 1,343 yards and seven scores. A 6.6 YPC clip on that many attempts is no joke even if it is in the Big 12.
We’re also talking about a guy who has real receiving production. Over the last two years, Giddens has 50 receptions for 581 yards and four scores. No question he’s proven himself in that role and can handle it at the next level.
The K-State back checks in at 6-foot, 212. Definitely runs upright and gives off shades of a worse version of Breece Hall. Stylistically, that’s just what I think you’re looking at here. By the way, we’re talking about a former zero star recruit. Only took one pure redshirt year and then starting eating his way into the lineup fairly quickly. Can’t really complain about the on-field product at K-State. Just one fumble over the last two years while handling a huge workload.
At the Combine, he showed off plenty of speed but I thought the on-field portion was pretty disappointing. This is the part where the red flags started to really show up. Faster than quick category. Felt like he really had to gear down in short area. Long stride runner and doesn’t pass the smell test in the knee bend category. Definitely more of a speed back than a power back and needs big time work as a blocker. Not that he sucks. Just a bit more upright than you want and not a pacy in those small windows.
I don’t think DJ Giddens is totally terrible but I’m likely not going any higher than a 6th or 7th rounder. Again, I just like Dylan Edwards better. Not telling you the guy is trash but there are just so many backs in this class I prefer to take instead.
