After his ejection in Game 3 between the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Lakers first-round series Saturday, Grizzlies wing Dillon Brooks isn’t holding himself accountable for his own actions. The Memphis bully says that the media and fans have created a whole different persona for him.
“The media making me a villain,” Brooks said to reporters Sunday, according to NBA.com “The fans making me a villain and then that just creates a whole different persona on me.
“It doesn’t matter to me,” Brooks said. “I’m going to keep playing my game and get better and better each and every day and as long as my career goes.”
The officials sent Brooks packing in Game 3 after he struck Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James in the groin, where he was assessed a Flagrant 2 and, by rule, ejected. Brooks tapped James in the groin, leading him to collapse to the ground only 17 seconds into the third quarter.
That ejection would be his third ejection and 18th technical foul of the year, which leads the league.
People have seen Brooks as the villain in the NBA for the past two seasons now. With giving out plenty of choice words for Lakers’ superstar LeBron James this season, it seems as if Brooks is almost embracing the “villain” persona, not avoiding it.
The Grizzlies will face off against the Lakers for Game 4 on Monday, April 24th, at 10:00 p.m. ET. Los Angeles will look to grab a 3-1 series lead over the No. 2 seeded Grizzlies at home. Meanwhile, struggling Brooks and the Grizzlies will look to head back to Memphis with the series knotted up at two games a piece.
