The July 15th deadline grows closer and closer as players who were slapped with the franchise tag cannot negotiate a long term agreement past that date. Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is attempting to put pressure on the Dallas by threatening to sit out a portion of the regular season if no deal is struck.
Dez Bryant has been one of the most productive receivers in the league since being drafted in the first round in 2010. The 26 year old led the NFL with 16 touchdowns in 2014. Bryant has an argument for getting ‘Calvin Johnson’ money as he has proven himself to be one of the league’s best. Thus far Dallas has not been willing to give Dez a contract north of $100 million. Calvin Johnson’s 7 year extension worth 113.45 Million contract will be a sticking point in contract negotiations.
The Cowboys and Bryant’s representatives have only met once prior to the 4th of July as all indications thus far suggest a new deal is a long way off. Bryant cannot be fined for missing training camp as he has not signed his franchise tender yet but he can be fined for missing regular season games. Dez would lose $752,000 for every game he skipped. The Cowboys could be missing three of their best players if Bryant decides to sit out as Rolando McClain and Greg Hardy have already been suspended to start the season.
