Veteran New England safety Devin McCourty thinks Mac Jones has what it takes to be the future of the Patriots

New England hasn’t been up to the level of Tom Brady as when he left them, but they have a future under center. Veteran safety Devin McCourty has given the third-year quarterback Mac Jones some high praise, according to theScore.

In two seasons as the Patriots’ quarterback, Jones has played 32 games, including one postseason game his rookie year. He has accumulated 38 passing touchdowns and almost 7,000 passing yards in his two years in the NFL. But Jones has had 26 interceptions, which come down to average 13 in a season.

Jones hasn’t been perfect for the Patriots, but McCourty thinks he has a bright future with them.

“I’m excited for Mac,” McCourty said in an interview on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football, via theScore. “I think (the) sky is the limit. I think he is the future of New England. … I think you’re wrong if you don’t think that. He’s in that building right now doing different things, working with guys, talking to guys; that’s what he wants. He wants to be that quarterback.”

New England recently acquired a new offensive coordinator in Bill O’Brien this offseason. O’Brien will take over the play calling for the Patriots in hopes of transforming this underwhelming Patriots offense along with Mac Jones.

“I think Mac has all the intangibles and the things that you want in a quarterback. He’s … going into his third year, third offensive coordinator,” McCourty said, via theScore. “Hopefully, (O’Brien) is there for a while, and I think you’ll see the true growth.”
