Does Devin Duvernay Have Sneaky Fantasy Football Potential?

Does Devin Duvernay actually have sneaky fantasy potential despite being in the Ravens offense? Don’t be surprised if Duvernay emerges as a threat. (Scott Taetsch/Getty Images)

Does Devin Duvernay Have Sneaky Fantasy Football Potential?

The Ravens have the weirdest offense in the NFL and there frankly just isn’t a worse place to be if you’re a wide receiver. Lamar Jackson can’t throw the ball and they’re not even trying to find talent for him at the position. While Rashod Bateman might be the name that you automatically think of when trying to find a breakout candidate in Baltimore, what if it’s actually Devin Duvernay?

I don’t blame anyone for taking the dart throw on Bateman. I didn’t love him coming out of college. However, there is no question he will be the number one target on the depth chart. I’m just not positive he actually leads the Ravens in the stuff that matters. I would not be surprised at all if it’s the former Texas product Duvernay.

If it’s ever going to happen for Duvernay, it’s this year. The former third round pick in 2020 is heading into his third NFL season. The speed and ability to make plays in space is there. He can also return kicks if you need him too. I just want to know if he can actually start to become a real wide receiver.

I don’t expect Duvernay to even get drafted in fantasy leagues. Just keep him on your radar is all. If you let it fly for a $1 in your draft, I don’t blame you. Now maybe that just can’t happen in Baltimore but there are reasons to believe you may have something if you pull the trigger.

There is no competition on the roster. Tylan Wallace, Binjimin Victor, and James Proche are the current competitors. What I should say is that there is no competition. I could see a pathway to Duvernay being a high volume slot option that really eats in PPR leagues. The Ravens wide out also ran a 4.39 40 time at the combine. If he’s learned how to become a real receiver that can do the little things in the slot, the value for fantasy will be there.

A reminder of what Duvernay looked like coming out of college. He’s got one reliable trait that can’t be taken away. The guy catches the ball. Period.

Just put it on the back burner. Take some extra time to think about it. I really don’t want to go messing with Ravens wide receivers in this offense for fantasy. However, if you have to pick one outside of Mark Andrews, Duvernay isn’t the worst dart throw you can take. It’s hard to totally hate what his high-end fantasy potential cold look like even in this cruddy offense.
