DeMarcus Cousins Is Confused About Not Being On An NBA Roster

DeMarcus “Boogie” Cousins is confused that he hasn’t been able to find a home with an NBA team this season.

Cousins, 32, last played for an NBA team in the 2021-22 season with the Denver Nuggets. The four-time All-Star hasn’t played particularly well in the last few seasons. He hasn’t averaged more than 10 points in a season since 2018-19. To be frank, he hasn’t been the same player since he tore his ACL in 2019-20.

In any scenario, Cousins still thinks he belongs on an NBA roster.

“I’ve asked many questions. I’ve reached out to former teams,” Cousins said in an interview with SiriusXM NBA Radio on Tuesday. “I kind of get sugarcoated answers. I can never really get the raw, honest truth. I’ve struggled with that as well. I would love to get a real answer.”

“That’s honestly my biggest issue. That’s kind of the untold secret of the NBA, you never really get an honest answer,” Cousins said. “I’m the type of guy that whenever I go through my hard times or my hardships, I look at myself first. What can I do to better myself? That’s something I pride myself on.

It’s hard to gauge why professional sports teams make the decisions that they do. I couldn’t imagine how frustrating it must be for Cousins when he’s simply not getting a direct answer from teams about why they won’t sign him. Personally, I’d take Cousins, old man and all, over a lot of centers that are currently on NBA rosters.

Maybe Cousins remains unsigned because of outlandish comments that he’s made in the past.

The big man Cousins has played for seven different NBA teams, but will probably be remembered mostly for his days with the Sacramento Kings. He played seven seasons with the Kings and was probably the most dominant version of himself in those years.

Cousins’ best game in recent memory was when he dropped 31 points in 2022 with the Nuggets. He had three threes that night and nine rebounds.

The Lakers worked out Cousins back in January, but no signing was made. Will Boogie be signed before the NBA Playoffs? I bet he won’t, but stranger things have happened.
